What's next, and where next, for RACA?

-The questions facing the Rome Area Council for the Arts are starting to mount. In the few years RACA was at 248 Broad St., it became a more visible art gallery, a small retail operation, an active spot for student summer camps and a haven for gallery openings, local song writers and other arts group.

-Already, the Rome Art Coterie has had to move tonight's 7 o'clock meeting to St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The coterie also will need a new site for its eighth National Juried Art Exhibition set for April 1-30.

-Some of the RACA fund-raisers have become traditions, including the Art of Chocolate (it wasn't planned organized this year) and the September beer fest.

-And RACA's next home is in question. The assume venue is the old Dempsey building on West Third but that is a temporary spot as demolition will come sooner than later. A spot in Mount Berry Square has been suggested while others believe the community's art's hub should be on Broad Street.

-As Sherry Childs, the group's president, stressed Monday: "RACA is not going away." But the questions are, what will RACA become--and where?
