Cintas lays off 40 at Calhoun operation: A day after posting improving employment figures, Gordon County is again hit by layoffs. This time, it involves 40 jobs from Cintas, the uniform company. The Calhoun location is at 100 Russ Drive. Already this year, Calhoun has lost 190 jobs at Kobelco Construction Machinery and another 390 at Shaw Industries. More updates later today> Cintas

Shorter closes season vs. Bethel, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Barron Stadium> Details
Shorter College is offering free admission to Saturday's 1:30 p.m. Shorter Hawks vs. Bethel Wildcats at Barron Stadium with the donation of five or more canned food items. Members of Shorter College's Baptist Collegiate Ministries have teamed with the Floyd County Baptist Association to host a food drive for the local community. Food items needed include: tuna, soup, Spaghetti O's, peanut butter, grape jelly, canned spaghetti, dry pinto beans, dry bagged rice, Pop Tarts (cherry or chocolate), Vienna Sausage, Ramen noodles, boxed macaroni and cheese, and canned evaporated milk.
