Fair, chili cookoff could be dodging rain drops: The weekend forecast gets soggy tonight and Saturday, which could have some impact on the annual Chili Cookoff at Ridge Ferry Park, the finale of the Coosa Valley Fair and downtown's last classic car cruise-in for the season. Net revenue collections continue to slide in the new fiscal year. September's total, $1.37 billion, was down 12.2 percent from two years earlier, $1.56 billion, and by 16 percent from September 2008 ($1.63 billion). In fact, the last time collections for September were this low was in 2004: $1,365,677,000. For the first quarter of the state's fiscal year, the collections are down a combined 14.2 percent> Details

Health

-'Modest' demand for initial doses of swine flu vaccine: (Media Release) The Floyd County Health Department will continue to offer the swine flu nasal spray vaccine to healthy children ages 2 to 4 today from 8 until 11 a.m. and again on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Health department nurse manager Pat Townley described today's turnout to receive the initial vaccine doses available in Floyd County as "modest" and attributed it "primarily to our targeting a very narrow age group with strict health requirements with these initial doses." Townley said demand for seasonal flu shots remains high. The health department expects to receive the injectable swine flu shots later in October> Health

-Today/Celebrate the Girls breast cancer awareness event at Dwarf House: The Breast Center at Floyd is commemorating its first anniversary this October with Celebrate the Girls (and a Few Great Guys, Too). Today, Floyd, South 107, Life 93.5, Q102 and WRGA 1470 AM and Chick-Fil-A partner for a breakfast live radio event from 6 until 10 a.m. at the Chick-Fil-A Dwarf House> Details

-RSO's Fifth Annual Fine Wine Festival Nov. 1: The Fifth Annual Rome Fine Wine Festival, benefiting the Rome Symphony Orchestra, is set for 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Forrest Building Ballrooms on Broad Street in Rome. The event will feature wines from around the world, local distributors and local wine and liquor stores. Also, 11 area restaurants are participating.  Rome Symphony Orchestra musicians will perform and there will be a silent auction.  Tickets may be purchased in advance for $50 each or $60 at the door.  Each guest receives a complimentary Riedel glass.  A Patrons' Party is set for 2-3:30 p.m. with guest sommeliers; tickets for this event are $85.
