Greater Rome Chamber endorses SPLOST extension vote

Media release: Chairman of the Board Angie Lewis, President & CEO Citizens First Bank, a division of Synovus, is pleased to announce that the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has unanimously approved their support of the 2012 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) package. This SPLOST

package is a continuation of the one cent sales tax beginning in June 2013 and will provide support for the essential safety services in Rome and Floyd County.

 

With revenue for the City of Rome, the City of Cave Spring and Floyd County falling the last five years, the2012 SPLOST Package would raise $32.4 million in sales tax revenue. Studies show that up to 40% of sales tax revenue comes from visitors to the community which helps lower the cost of property tax on the citizens of Floyd County.

"The board of directors supporting this SPLOST shows our commitment to continually improving the quality of our community," Chairman Lewis stated. "This SPLOST will help our local governments fund projects that will allow us to maintain our superior quality of life for existing residents and employers and the attraction of new primary employers."

Items included in the SPLOST package include various capital and transportation needs such as road paving, law enforcement vehicles, Downtown sidewalk and South Rome Bridge Rehabilitation, new HVAC units for various buildings, and a roof for the jail.

SPLOST has allowed us to create various opportunities that we all benefit from no matter where you live in Floyd County. "

The Chamber's Board of Directors encourages all citizens of Rome and Floyd County to vote YES for the 2012 SPLOST on March 6, 2012. Early voting is currently being held at the Elections Office located at 12 E. 4th Avenue and also at the Rome Civic Center beginning February 27.
